PGT Window Installation: The Westchester Owner’s Guide

If your PGT window has a failed seal, a broken balance, or a cracked sash, we stock and install PGT-compatible parts across Westchester, and complete the job right the first time. Typical installed cost for a PGT window part replacement in Westchester runs $140 to $480 depending on the component, and since we keep the most common PGT parts on our trucks, most repairs happen in a single visit. The telltale signs are usually unmissable once you know what to look for: the window won’t stay up, condensation clouds the glass, or you feel a draft even when the sash is locked tight. Ed Winslow has been matching PGT windows to their correct parts for over a decade, and we’ve seen every failure mode Westchester’s humidity and afternoon storms can throw at a window.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT builds several distinct window series, and the parts are not interchangeable across all of them. In Westchester, we most often work on the WinGuard and SpectraGuard impact lines, the ClassicVue and Eze-Breeze non-impact lines, and the energy-focused PGT 450 and 550 series. The first compatibility gotcha: a balance from a WinGuard window will not fit a SpectraGuard frame even if both are single-hung and look identical from the couch. PGT stamps a series code on the spacer bar inside the glass unit and on a label near the top of the frame; if that label is peeled or faded, we cross-reference the glass dimensions and the pocket cutout. For Westchester homeowners deciding between OEM and aftermarket parts, we’re straightforward: OEM PGT glass and balances preserve the original warranty and the exact Low-E coating match, while quality aftermarket balances from Caldwell or Amesbury cost 15 to 25 percent less and perform well on windows that are already out of warranty. We install both, and we’ll walk you through the tradeoff before we order anything. Winslow Windows & Doors is an independent service provider and not affiliated with PGT Innovations or its distributors.

Signs Your PGT Window Installation Is Failing

  • A sash that slowly slides down or won’t stay open. This is a failing block-and-tackle balance or a worn constant-force coil, both of which lose tension gradually. In Westchester’s salt air, the coil springs inside the balance assembly corrode even on windows that are only six or seven years old.
  • Fog or haze trapped between the two panes. The insulating glass unit’s perimeter seal has failed, letting humid Florida air inside the airspace. No amount of glass cleaner fixes this; the IGU has to be replaced, and PGT’s WinGuard units are argon-filled with a Low-E stack, so matching the replacement is the critical step.
  • A lock that grinds or refuses to throw fully. The keeper and latch on PGT single-hungs are die-cast zinc, and years of lock-and-unlock cycles in Westchester humidity plus the occasional forced crank from a stuck sash strips the mating surfaces.
  • Visible cracking at the frame corners or separation at the sill. PGT vinyl frames expand and contract with Westchester’s hot afternoons, and if a window was installed without proper shim clearance at the sill, the stress concentrates at the welded corners and the miters start to open.
  • Water staining on the interior drywall beneath the window even after a heavy rain. This usually points to a compressed or missing sill dam or a failed weatherstrip along the bottom sash rail, not the glass itself. It’s the kind of thing we find on older Westchester ranchers where the original PGT install used a foam wedge that has since crushed flat.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Westchester, here’s what we charge for the PGT window installation parts and labor most homeowners need:

  • Insulating glass unit replacement: $190 to $480 installed, depending on glass size and Low-E coating match
  • Block-and-tackle balance replacement (per sash): $140 to $220 installed, including removal and re-cord of both shoes
  • Lock and keeper replacement: $95 to $160 installed
  • Weatherstrip and sill dam replacement: $90 to $180 installed, depending on frame condition
  • Full sash replacement (non-impact PGT models): $260 to $450 installed

Every quote is a written, line-item price, so you’ll see the part cost and the labor broken out separately before we touch the window. The price we quote is the price you pay; if we find hidden frame damage once the sash is out, we stop work and talk to you before doing anything else. All PGT window installation work carries our workmanship warranty, and if anything shifts or settles after we leave, the 36500-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and make it right. Westchester homeowners also get $40 off any repair over $200, and seniors and veterans always receive 10 percent off.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: clean the track with a dry rag, confirm the sash is seated evenly in both side jambs, and look for the PGT label on the frame so you have the series code ready when you call. What we’d stop you from doing is popping out the sash on an impact-rated WinGuard and attempting a balance swap from a YouTube video. These windows are heavy, the constant-force coils are under tension, and a snapped coil can take a chunk out of your hand or your drywall. The same goes for replacing an IGU on an impact window: if the glass is not set square with the right setting blocks and glazing tape, you’ll break the thermal performance and possibly the impact rating itself. If you’d rather we handle it, call (863) 251-5864 and we’ll schedule the truck. Ed’s name is on the door, not a ticket number, and the person who answers the phone is someone who actually works in Westchester.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"The old aluminium sliders howled every afternoon storm and swelter came straight through the glass. The new impact sliders shut with a sound like a bank vault and the back rooms finally hold their temperature."

PPercival Whitcombe
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."

TThaddeus Okonkwo
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."

MMaximilian Vasquez
★★★★

"Excellent work and a fair price for what it is, though impact glass is never cheap and one bedroom window arrived with a scratched pane. Ed flagged it before I saw it and the replacement went in without me chasing anyone."

BBartholomew Crenshaw
★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★

"The installation was clean and the windows are beautiful. The factory took about six weeks to deliver the units, which Ed told me upfront, but living behind plywood-framed openings in the meantime still tested my patience."

GGuadalupe Zamorano
★★★★★

"A tile roof repair and new windows from the same company meant one crew, one permit runner, and nobody blaming the other trade. Ed checked the roof work himself before the tarp came off."
