Signs Your PGT Window Replacement Is Failing

• Fog or condensation trapped between the panes. This is a failed insulated glass seal. The desiccant inside the spacer has saturated, and the unit is now permanently fogged. No cleaning or defogging service will reverse it. Once the seal is gone, the gas fill is gone with it, and your energy efficiency drops.
• Water staining on the sill or drywall below the window. The weep holes may be clogged, or the frame seal has failed. In Westchester, where afternoon thunderstorms hit sideways, water intrusion around a PGT frame usually means the exterior sealant has dried and cracked. Replacing the sealant is a repair; a warped frame or cracked corner joint means the window goes.
• The sash binds, sticks, or drops when opened. Worn balance shoes or spiral balances are the usual culprits. Older PGT single-hungs have metal spiral balances that corrode in humid air.
